For generations, the shooting shirt has been a staple of British field clothing. But shooting clothing has moved on, and we think the shirt can move on with it.
It does not have to mean a heavy traditional shirt that looks completely at home on a formal shoot but rather out of place everywhere else.
A modern shooting shirt can be comfortable, breathable and practical enough for the clay ground, smart enough for the clubhouse and perfectly at home on less formal game and field days.

What Actually Makes a Shooting Shirt Different?
At first glance, a shooting shirt can look like any other button-down shirt.
But shooting places very particular demands on clothing.
Think about the movement involved every time you call for a target or react to a bird.
Your arms rise. Your shoulders rotate. Your upper back moves. The gun comes into the shoulder. Then everything resets and you do it again.
A normal casual shirt is not necessarily designed around that movement.
A proper shooting shirt should be.
For us, the important areas are:
- freedom of movement through the shoulders and upper body;
- enough room to mount the gun naturally;
- breathability during active shooting;
- reinforcement in the areas that see repeated use;
- a cut that stays comfortable as you move; and
- enough versatility to work with other shooting layers.
Those requirements influenced almost every part of the REISTO shirt.
Meet the REISTO® Tactical Shooting Shirt
We wanted to create something a little different.
Not another generic country shirt with a shooting label attached to it.
And not something so aggressively tactical that it feels out of place at a clay ground or clubhouse.
The result is a shirt designed specifically around shooting but deliberately styled so that it does not have to stay at the shooting ground.
The REISTO® Tactical Shooting Shirt is made from a 185gsm 60% cotton / 40% polyester blend and is available in Navy Blue and Muted Olive.

Why 185gsm?
Fabric weight matters more than it might seem.
Go too heavy and a shirt can become unnecessarily warm and cumbersome when you are actively shooting.
Go extremely light and you risk losing the more substantial feel and durability you would expect from field clothing.
At 185gsm, the REISTO shirt is intended to sit in the middle.
It has enough substance to feel like a proper shooting garment without turning into another heavy layer.
That makes it useful across a surprisingly large part of the shooting year.
Why Use a Cotton and Polyester Blend?
There is no rule saying a shooting shirt has to be made entirely from one traditional material.
We chose a 60% cotton / 40% polyester blend because we wanted to balance everyday comfort with the demands of a garment designed to be worn outdoors and moved in repeatedly.
The cotton content gives the shirt a familiar, comfortable feel, while the polyester forms part of a more practical performance blend.
But fabric alone does not make a shirt comfortable when shooting.
That is why ventilation became such an important part of the design.
The Cape Back: Ventilation Where You Actually Need It
One of the most distinctive features of the shirt is the ventilated cape back.
If you have spent a warm day shooting, you will know how quickly heat can build across your back.
This becomes particularly noticeable if you are wearing a vest over the top or walking between stands and layouts.
The cape-back construction is there to improve airflow rather than simply relying on the fabric itself to keep you comfortable.
Why the ventilated back matters
A shooting shirt is not worn while you are sitting still.
You are walking, carrying equipment, mounting the gun and moving around the ground or field.
Ventilation helps the garment deal better with that activity, particularly when the shirt is being used as part of a layered shooting setup.
And We Did Not Stop at the Back
The shirt also incorporates underarm ventilation.
Again, this is not there for decoration.
The underarm area is both a significant movement point and somewhere heat can build quickly during activity.
Combining underarm ventilation with the cape back gives the shirt multiple areas through which heat can escape.
That makes particular sense for clay shooting, walked-up days and those strange British autumn days that start freezing cold and somehow become warm by lunchtime.
Reinforced Denim Shooting Shoulders
This is probably the feature that gives the shirt its most distinctive REISTO character.
Rather than simply producing another plain shooting shirt, we use reinforced denim shoulder panels.
The shoulder is one of the areas subjected to repeated contact during shooting, so reinforcement here is practical as well as visual.
Every time you mount the gun, the stock comes back into that area.
The denim gives the shirt additional reinforcement while creating a more modern appearance than a conventional shooting patch.
And importantly, the shirt does not suddenly look as though it belongs exclusively in one very traditional corner of shooting.
Why the Longer Cut Matters
This is one of those little details that can make a surprisingly large difference.
The REISTO Tactical Shooting Shirt is deliberately cut longer than a standard casual shirt.
Why?
Because shooting involves repeatedly raising your arms and moving through your upper body.
A shirt that looks perfectly fine while you are standing in front of a mirror can behave completely differently once you start mounting a shotgun.
A longer cut helps the shirt stay in place rather than constantly riding upwards as you move.
It is not the sort of feature that makes for a dramatic marketing headline.
But after a few hours of shooting, it is exactly the sort of detail you appreciate.
A Chest Pocket That Actually Has a Shooting Purpose
The shirt includes a chest pocket with an integrated glasses loop.
Shooting glasses are one of those things you are constantly putting on, taking off and wondering where you left.
The loop gives you another convenient place to secure them when they are not being worn.
Again, it is a small feature.
But we would rather add small features that make sense for shooters than cover a shirt in unnecessary pockets simply so we can call it tactical.

We have retained a button-down collar.
That gives the shirt a smarter finish and is part of what makes it so versatile.
Wear it casually at the clay ground and it looks right.
Wear it into the clubhouse afterwards and it still looks right.

Is It a Clay Shooting Shirt?
Absolutely.
In fact, clay shooting is where many of the shirt's performance features make the most obvious sense.
During a 100-target competition you may be at the ground for several hours.
You could be shooting, walking between layouts, waiting for squads ahead of you and repeatedly moving between warm sunshine and shade.
A breathable shirt with good upper-body movement works extremely well in those conditions.
You can wear it:
- on its own in warmer conditions;
- under a clay shooting vest;
- under a softshell when temperatures fall; or
- as part of a more complete layered setup.

Is It Suitable for Game Shooting?
Yes, with one important qualification.
Always dress for the type of shoot you are attending.
British game shooting ranges from very traditional formal driven days through to much more relaxed syndicate, walked-up and rough shooting.
A formal driven day may have established expectations around traditional clothing, and if you are a guest it is always sensible to ask your host what is expected.
But game shooting does not always mean full traditional tweed.
For less formal field days, walked-up shooting, rough shooting, working around a shoot or simply spending time outdoors during the season, a practical modern shooting shirt can make a lot of sense.
Muted Olive: Made for the Field
The Muted Olive version really comes into its own as we move towards autumn and game season.
It is deliberately understated.
Paired with dark or earth-toned trousers, boots and an appropriate outer layer, it creates a modern field-shooting look without trying to imitate traditional tweed.

Rather than immediately jumping from a shirt to a huge winter coat, build layers according to the conditions.

- vest or lightweight mid-layer if required;
- softshell for cool or windy conditions; and

Could You Wear It for Beating or Picking-Up?
The practical features that make a shirt comfortable for shooters can also make it useful around the wider shooting day.
Beaters and pickers-up can spend far more time moving than the Guns themselves, so breathability and freedom of movement matter.
However, clothing for beating and picking-up needs to be chosen for the terrain, weather and requirements of the individual shoot.
In wet cover or poor weather, suitable protective outerwear is obviously more important than what shirt you are wearing underneath.

Why Not Just Wear a Normal Shirt?
You absolutely can.
You do not need specialist clothing for every single part of shooting.
But once you shoot regularly, little improvements start to matter.

Add layers.
A shooting vest can provide cartridge storage and another light layer. A softshell adds protection from wind and cooler conditions. A waterproof outer layer can then be carried for genuinely wet weather.
